Why Kegels Are Actually Holding You Back

September 18, 2023

Did you know all those kegels you're doing might actually be doing you more harm than good?

There’s a few things going on here.

  1. You’re kinda doing kegels, but you’re doing them wrong. You’re pushing down rather than lifting up and in.
  2. You’re using the wrong muscles. A lot of people end up squeezing their glutes (butt muscles) when they’re trying to isolate the pelvic floor.
  3. You’re focusing on the contraction rather than the relaxation. Remember, muscles only strengthen through a cycle of contract and release. So if all you’re doing is squeeze-squeeze-squeeze, you’re quite possibly weakening your muscles.

And here’s why it matters–

A tight pelvic floor can mean a longer labor, painful sex, leaking pee, causing or aggravating a prolapse, and even things like *dun dun DUNNN*

the infamous “Mom Butt,”

which might have something to do with the fact your low back is always hurting.

And we’re just scratching the surface here.

When you’re ready to go deeper, check out the Mama Core Workshop--Why Kegels Aren't the Answer. We go over everything from how to work the pelvic floor correctly to why Mom Butt matters way beyond aesthetics.

Ooh maybe I should’ve said assthethics.

Here’s to healthy pelvic floors and nice round mom tushes!
